Topic: A Special Green Gem in Sherwood
Long before the distraction of digital screens, you might remember that impatient question which sometimes came from young passengers on long family road trips: Are we there yet? A similar question could be asked today about one of Brisbane’s botanic treasures, which has nearly completed a long and eventful journey of its very own.
Sherwood Arboretum, which started life as Brisbane’s second botanic garden in March 1925, and which has survived many ups and downs, is about to celebrate its centenary. Andrew Benison, President of the Friends of Sherwood Arboretum Association Inc., will give an introduction to the Sherwood Arboretum which will be the venue for our March Excursion. Andrew is very knowledgeable about the Arboretum’s history and appreciative of its value to the community. At this talk Andrew will give us a fair and balanced account of the Arboretum’s epic journey and attempt to answer that challenging question: Are we there yet?
