Stephen Peck: The Yakka Skink (Egernia rugosa)
Stephen Peck has had a lifelong fascination for Australian reptiles and reptile conservation and has had the opportunity to travel throughout Australia observing them.
He has worked extensively with two of Queensland’s threatened endemic reptile species; the collared delma (Delma torquata) and the yakka skink (Egernia rugosa). He has been studying the yakka skink for almost twenty years and has recently started a PhD investigating the effects of grazing, fire and invasive species on the conservation of Egernia rugosa. In his presentation Stephen aims to introduce us to the fascinating but poorly known yakka skink and will give us a personal tour of the life history of the species and its social structure.
