Christmas BBQ Breakup – Lota Reserve, Moreton Bay

4.00 pm Sunday December 15

Leader: David Bouchard

Directions: Lota Reserve is a pleasant park with numerous picnic tables, on the foreshore of the bayside suburb of Lota. The park is about 500m south of the Manly Boat Harbour. We will meet at the Esplanade carpark in the vicinity of Ernest St. You also have the option of catching the train to Lota station with a 10 minute walk to the reserve.

Meeting time is 4.00pm but you are welcome to come later. If you can’t find us, give the leader a call on his mobile (supplied on registration).

After we secure a shelter shed and picnic tables, members and visitors are free to explore the surrounding environs. It will be low tide so some may want to explore the mudflats out the front of the reserve. There is also the nearby Lota Ck boardwalk through the mangroves which leads to the Chelsea Rd bushland.

Amenities: The reserve has eight shelter sheds with lighting, picnic tables, drinking water, electric barbeques, well lit clean toilets, and a children’s playground.  For those inclined you can purchase fish and chips at the takeaway a few 100m south along the Esplanade.

What to Bring: something to barbeque or other food, your drinks, insect repellent, binoculars, and suitable footwear if you want to explore the mudflats. In the slight chance we can’t secure a picnic shelter, it would be worth packing a chair and headlamp.

Weather: Hopefully the weather will be fine, but being storm season there is a chance we could get washed out by afternoon storms. If it looks like we will be in for the bad weather the leader will email everyone who registered at 3.00 pm, cancelling the event. Also Terry will post the cancellation on the website. The storms might go through early, so perhaps all is needed is to delay the event by an hour. In that case again check your email or the website around 3.00 pm for details.
